How to Move Forward With Possible Hail Damage
- Record the date and time of the storm that might have caused possible hail damage.
- Ensure that you do not have an emergency roof situation. If you notice any immediate leaks or daylight, call us to come out and inspect your home.
- This step is optional: Call us to come out and inspect your home for hail damage. This option will help you understand the extent of the damage done to the roof. We can also provide insight into how the insurance process works.
- Call your local insurance agent or your insurance carrier directly. The insurance company will send out an adjuster that will check for hail damage. If you have hail damage, the adjuster will provide you with an adjuster’s report. This report will break down the hailstorm claim to the insured.
- Call us to come give an estimate for your roof.
Extra help: You'll receive a first check from the insurance company after an adjuster has claimed the roof for hail damage. If you have a recoverable deprecation policy, you'll receive a second check after the roof is replaced. For you to receive the second check for recoverable depreciation, you must send the invoice for the completed work and proof of payment of the deductible to the insurance adjuster. Quality Roofing will help with this process. We email our invoice and proof of payment to your insurance.
If you have an Actual Cash Value (ACV) policy, then you do not receive any additional checks. They will only receive the first check from their insurance company.
What to Avoid After a Hailstorm
- Always use a local reputable roofing company like Quality Roofing. An out-of-town company will not still be in your area when all the hailstorm roofing is complete. If you have any issues with your roof, it will be harder to get the issue resolved. All roof replacements should have a warranty.
- Never pay money up front or give your insurance check to a company before the work is completed.
- Do not sign vague contracts. Any contract should be specific, and the homeowner should be able to understand the contract. The contract will only be effective after the work on the roof has started. You have the right to change your mind about contractors before any work has started.
- Be aware of the deadline on the insurance adjuster’s report to have the roofing work completed. Each insurance is different and may give a different timeline.
- Avoid roofing contractors that say they can cover your deductible. In 2019, the State of Texas passed a new state law that made it clear that it is illegal for a contractor to waive deductibles.
